B3-CBN-04-15-16-2Marco Island area youth will have a special opportunity to develop their art skills and appreciation at the Marco Island Center for the Arts 2016 Youth and Family Summer Workshops. The program also encourages family bonding through family workshops where adults and children spend fun and creative quality time together.

Participating young artists will have the chance to not only produce original works of art, but to also display their creations during the Young Artists’ Reception on July 29, 2016.

Five workshops are planned:

Family Fun with Coil Bowls – June 18 (9:30 AM-12:30 PM). Participants must be a team of parent (or other adult) with a child between 7-14 years of age. The workshop will use different thicknesses of extruded coils to fashion bowls.

Digital Photography Basics– June 27-29 (1-4 PM). This workshop is for students between 10 and 14 years of age and will address composition,



color vs. black and white, and explore different forms of photography.

Functional Pottery– July 11-15 (9:30 AM to 12:30 PM). Students from 9 through 12 years of age will create their own tumbler, plate and bowl out of clay.

The Coolest Kids Art Class Ever – July 11-15 and July 18-22 (9:30 AM-12:30 PM). Students aged 7 to 14 can take one or both weeks of classes, which include watercolor and acrylic painting, drawing, abstracts, 3-D art, paper sculptures, spray paint and more.

Playmaking – July 25-29 (1-4 PM). Students aged 9 to 14 will be introduced to the magic of dramatic impulse through improvisation and writing exercises, modeled after the successful 52nd Street Project in New York City. The final short plays will be presented at the Young Artists’ Reception.
