The Marco Island Woman’s Club (MIWC) is a civic-minded organization, as well as an active social network for women residing on the island. It has a long, proud history of serving the community – from founding the Marco Island Public Library to providing college scholarships to deserving high school students living on Marco. The Club, through their special interest group The Stitch Makers, donates crochet or knit blankets and hats to various organizations.

This year the group of approximately 30 MIWC members has donated 102 blankets, including 21 baby blanket and hat sets, to Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. In addition, they have given 108 lotions and creams for the mothers-to-be who were participants in the hospital’s Baby Outreach Program, an educational outreach event to support new mothers of the migrant community.

Since the group’s inception three years ago, The Stitch Makers have given a total of 345 blankets and 242 hats to Golisano, Manatee Elementary School, Six L’s Farm, and other organizations.

Marco Island Woman’s Club next meeting is Wednesday, October 2nd at the Marco Island Yacht Club. Social time begins at 11:30 AM, followed by lunch at noon.
