The Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, 300 Tower Road in Naples, will celebrate World Oceans Day from 9 a.m. to 4 pm on Tuesday, June 8.

In addition to regularly scheduled daily programs, which include a nature walk at 11 a.m. and a Coastal Birds program at 2 pm, visitors to the center can enjoy a Touch Tank experience featuring Rookery Bay species such as conchs and crabs at 12 p.m. The 130-seat auditorium will feature short films about the ocean all day. Visitors can calculate their carbon footprint, receive Sustainable Seafood Guides, and pick up additional information about how to protect the ocean. The center includes aquariums, interactive exhibits, an art gallery, butterfly garden, picnic area and gift shop. As part of The Ocean Project’s nationwide “Wear Blue and Tell Two” campaign, Rookery Bay will offer “buy one admission, get two free” for people wearing blue. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12 unless otherwise noted. For more information, call 239-417-6310 or visit

Officially recognized by the United Nations, World Oceans Day is held worldwide to encourage individuals to think about what the ocean means to them and what it has to offer all of us with hopes of conserving it for present and the future generations. The world’s ocean generates most of the oxygen we breathe; helps feed us; regulates our climate; cleans the water we drink; offers us a pharmacopoeia of potential medicines; and provides limitless inspiration.
