Mike Fagan, owner of Kerry’s Café in Shops of Marco, showed the beam outside Kerry’s on recent Sunday in February. The display was in conjunction with an ongoing fund raiser for the building of a Freedom Memorial Wall in Naples. Mike also showed two restored New York Police department police cars; a 1968 Plymouth and a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria.
As a retired New York City policeman, Mike has vivid memories of the heroics of police officers, firefighters and other responders to the September 11 attack. He is a member of the 1013 Club, and works closely with retired firefighters on the Memorial Wall project. Mike says: “ The Memorial, which will be located at Goodlette Road and Golden Gate Parkway in Naples, is a permanent reminder of what happened on that historic and treacherous day. I believe strongly in dedicating that day to the memory of lost heroes and innocent civilians. That’s why I work closely with retired firefighters to build the permanent memorial. The American flag motif, combined with the map of the United States and engraved paving blocks, is an effort to pay tribute to the men and women who sacrificed their lives in service to our country and the victims of September 11, 2001.”
