November 7th marks another year for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. This year there are two teams from Marco Island participating in the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Marco Island resident and 5th year team captain, Karin Hatcher, heads up Lillian’s “A” Team. The team is named after her mother Lillian, a victim of Alzheimer’s disease. Karin says “Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States, and the only cause of death among the top 10 in the United States that cannot be prevented, cured or even slowed.”
Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Symptoms usually develop slowly and get worse over time, becoming severe enough to interfere with daily tasks. This year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s is expected to bring more than 450,000 people of all ages and abilities to come together in over 600 communities seeking to raise funds to help reclaim the future for millions.
The Collier County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held November 7th at Fleischmann Park (1200 Fleischmann Blvd., Naples), with pre-registration beginning at 9 AM and the walking starting at 10 AM.
