Dave Gardner, Commander of Marco Island’s VFW Post 6370, is proud to show the architectural designs for the Veterans’ Memorial to be located in Veteran’s Park in Marco Island.

The plans, created by architectural firm, Kimley, Horn & Associates, include a secluded circle of concrete, 120 feet in diameter, surrounded in part by trees in which benches will be placed. Loved ones will be able to place names of veterans on plaques that will be displayed here.  Eventually, the veterans would like to see a band shell and events where 200-500 people could gather in this quieter, protected area of the park.

The VFW awaits cost estimates from the architects, and are anxious that the plans are realized and become a reality as soon as possible so that World War Veterans may live to see and enjoy this memorial. The Marco Vets were able to make a donation of $10,000 to the City of Marco Island to begin funding the cost of the memorial through

the bequest of a Dr. Wyte of Detroit, MI. Dr. Wyte left directions in his will that certain VFW posts receive donations from his estate. It is not known why he chose Marco Island’s Post as one of them.

In order to raise the full cost of the Veterans’ Memorial, the VFW would greatly appreciate donations from the public. They are always looking for new members. Membership costs just $25 per year, and new members get their first year of membership free! VFW Post 6370 takes care of local veterans of foreign wars, whether the vets have served in WWII, Vietnam, Korea, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan, South America, or any foreign country in which the situation means they are in danger of being injured or killed.

As they do every year, our local VFW veterans sold poppies in front of local area stores. Proceeds from the sale go to benefit local veterans and their families. Our local VFW Post support the vets in several different ways includingans’ care home.
