It was only mid-October but already the Gourmet Gals of Marco Island had the Christmas Holidays on their “menu.”
The Gourmet Gals is a cooking group, and according to Carol Barnhart, they share their friendship through food and drink. The group started with the Newcomers Club and their mutual interests continued beyond Newcomers for the last eight years.
The Gourmet Gals wanted to get into the spirit of the holidays early and members Sharyn Kampmeyer, Debbie Rago and Ann Machetti came up with the idea to donate a Christmas tree to the Center for the Arts’ Festival of Trees. It will be auctioned off with all the proceeds to be donated back to the Center. This was the trio’s special event for the group.
Sharyn, Debbie and Ann donated the trees and the Gourmet Gals donated ornaments for decorations. One tree was designated as a the “Spirit Tree” while the second tree was a “Cooking Tree”. The “Spirit Tree” has a variety of very interesting decorations from miniature pina coladas, beer mugs and an assortment of miniature bottles of spirits – a perfect festive addition to any bar.
The Cooking Tree is loaded with one-of-a-kind whimsical cooking utensils and food items all set to add festive décor to the kitchen area. The themes reflect the groups’ shared interest of food and drink.
The Gourmet Gals is a group of 30 fun-loving “gals.” Past events have included a private demonstration by Sur la Table chefs, a Cinco de Mayo celebration, easy summer desserts and an annual holiday party. According to Carol, their goal is to walk away with a new recipe from each event.
2019 will be the Sixth Festival of Trees, at the Center for the Arts from December 3-5. It offers students. individuals, families, clubs and organizations a unique opportunity to participate in this annual fundraiser.
Three-foot trees or smaller can be decorated with any style or theme. Tree decorators will be responsible for providing a tree and all lighting and decorating materials. Electrical outlets are available. There is no fee for registration. Registration forms are available at the Center for the Arts or call the Center at 239-394-4221. The form is also online at www.marcoislandart.org.
There will be a silent auction for the trees. This is a joint fundraising effort with the decorator and Marco Island Center for the Arts. Each will receive 50% of the net proceeds. You can also elect to submit a tree that is Not for Sale.
The trees will be judged by the “Marco Island Christmas House Decorating Committee” elves. A prize will be awarded for the 1st place winner.
