After careful consideration I have decided to announce my retirement from the Marco Island Police Department. The effective date is pending and is being negotiated with the City Manager, Dr. Riviere. We will be taking into consideration the time needed to insure a very smooth transition and to make sure loose ends are tied up.
My tenure with MIPD has been very rewarding and fulfilling, more than I could have ever hoped for in 1999 when I started with the department. As with all jobs there have been positives and negatives but the positives have far out weighed the negatives. It has been an honor to be the Chief of Police for Marco Island for the last three years and it has been a real experience, even more than I expected. I have been a supervisor in some capacity since joining the U. S. Army in 1966 and after 45 years of public service, 38 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, it is time to take a break for awhile.
I wish to thank all of the Marco Island City Staff that has supported me over the years. It has been a distinct pleasure working with people that are so dedicated to their jobs and are true public servants that go well beyond the call of duty. It goes without saying that the Officers and non sworn staff along with the myriad of volunteers and Police supporters have been instrumental in our successes at MIPD. Our Department is abundant with dedicated and experienced Officers, something that any Chief of Police would hope to have. I have been very lucky and blessed to have such outstanding Officers to work with and I believe the City has certainly benefited from their accomplishments and devotion to Marco Island.
I truly wish all the luck to all of the Marco Island City employees in the future and I look forward to continuing my friendships that have prospered over the years.
Chief of Police
City of Marco Island
