Tax Collector Offices Closed 10/1
All Collier County Tax Collector offices will be closed Monday, October 1, for mandatory employee training. All offices will resume normal business operations Tuesday, October 2. This includes the temporary tax collector office located inside Rose Hall at the Marco Island Library.
The Collier County Tax Collector offers services such as:
- Motor Vehicle titles, registrations, and renewals
- Vessel titles, registrations, and renewal
- Driver License issuance, examinations, and renewals
- Collection of Property Tax, Tourist Development Tax, and Business Tax
- Beach Parking sticker issuance
- Birth Certificate reprints
- Concealed Weapon application processing

Tax Collector Larry Ray Receives State Award
Larry Ray, Tax Collector for Collier County, has earned a special designation for excellence in the field of financial operations.
The process involved for consideration of the Legacy Award is rigorous and includes a comprehensive review of the financial functions of the Tax Collector’s Office, to include a meticulous review, by a judging panel, of the Tax Collectors’ financial records, practices and use of technology.
“The Legacy Award is one of the most significant honors the Florida Tax Collectors Association awards a local Tax Collector,” said Association President, Ben Anderson, of Okaloosa County. I am incredibly pleased to say that Larry Ray has earned the designation for excellence in the field of financial operations.”
As mentioned, Larry Ray has consistently earned the Excellence in Financial Operations Award after exhibiting proficiency in these four areas of expertise. However, for the 2018 Legacy Award, Mr. Ray demonstrated that his office had even further enhanced its financial operations.
“Larry Ray has continually proven that he operates his office in an exemplary and award-winning manner,” said Ben Anderson, President of the Florida Tax Collectors Association. “The panelists’ review of his office far exceeded simply reviewing his perfect audit report. Larry Ray’s methods for delivering service to the people he serves and consideration of the technological innovations he has developed and put into place were also analyzed.”
Anderson further states, “Tax Collectors carry out State of Florida work at the local level on behalf of Florida’s citizens, including property tax collections and enforcement; drivers’ licenses and motor vehicle services; hunting and fishing licenses; birth certificates, and so much more. Mr. Ray represents his County well in providing these services.”
Sports Development Manager Joins Visitors Bureau
Sports Development Manager Joins Visitors Bureau John has joined the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau – Collier County’s department of tourism – as sports development manager. John will work closely with Collier County Parks and Recreation as well as national, state and local governing bodies to solicit and retain sports tourism events in the region. He will also join the planning team for Collier County’s new amateur sports complex being developed on the east side of Naples near I-75 exit 101.
John, a National Association of Sports Commissions Certified Sports Event Executive, previously served as sales manager for Visit Tucson Sports, and in a similar position with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. Over the past 20 years he has had the opportunity to work on events with a myriad of sports organizations including the American Junior Golf Association, Major League Soccer, Ohio High School Athletic Association, National Collegiate Athletic Association, the United States Olympic Committee as well as numerous youth sports organizations.
“An event needs to be beneficial not only for the client, but to the community as a whole,” says John. “The real key to sports marketing success is to remember the competition is only a portion of the event. It is the experience and the memories we help create for the players and their families that will last.”
John, a native of Ohio, has recently relocated to Naples from Tucson, Arizona.
40th Anniversary- National Estuaries Day
The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is hosting a special 40th Anniversary National Estuaries Day celebration with free admission to the Environmental Learning Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This annual event includes staff-narrated boat tours (bus transportation provided to the boat 15 minutes away), introductory 30-minute kayaking trips, stand-up paddleboarding demos on Henderson Creek, Estuary Encounter experience, live animal presentations, crafts, Junior Scientist lab activities and more. Additionally, two food trucks will be on site during lunch hours.
A special feature for this year is a retrospective of 40 years of coastal stewardship, shown through a selection of short films by award-winning documentary filmmaker Elam Stoltzfus and Live Oak Production Group. Shorts include cameos by people instrumental in creating the reserve and many partners who continue to help the reserve meet its mission.

4th Annual SWFL Diabetes & Wellness Conference
November is Diabetes Awareness Month and that is when Help a Diabetic Child Foundation (HADC) will be hosting the 4th Annual SWFL Diabetes & Wellness Conference in partnership with Florida SouthWestern State College. Conservancy event to focus on Eastern Collier Plans
The Conservancy of Southwest Florida will present a special Evenings at the Conservancy, environmental lecture series event, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, at the Conservancy Nature Center, 1495 Smith Preserve Way, Naples, 34201.
From traffic to taxes to wildlife impacts, decisions made over the next few months will impact the future of the county. Speakers will discuss Collier County’s plans for development in Eastern Collier County. Lazy Dayz In School
Lazy Dayz In SchoolLazy Dayz, a punk rock band rooted in Southwest Florida, will release their debut, 11-song, full-length album “In School” on October 20, 2018. The album brings a new sound to the area music scene traditionally reserved for the acoustic singer / songwriter genre.
The band says In School is a record meant to be the voice of a generation. Taking listeners through the twists and turns of growing up in the modern world. Starting immediately with the traditional-sounding punk track “Cant Sleep” detailing the frustration of insomnia. Clearly, the band members were influenced by Blink 182, Green Day and classic punk bands such as the Ramones and the Misfits. The full length album includes songs ranging in topics from the the perceived fakeness of growing up in Southwest Florida to the rage of political corruption.
Lazy Dayz is a 3-piece Punk Rock band from Naples Florida. The members are Drew Whitcomb on Bass and Lead Vocals, Brandon Janson on Guitar, and Kat Sokolich on drums.
