The unique twist to Wet Paint Live is that the artists set out early in the morning of thespecified date and paint a scene until 3:00p.m. They then bring the canvasses to the Art League for the auction. The works produced by these talented artists in one day are remarkable. Styles varied from highly detailed and “traditional” to more modern and abstract.
Esplanade was a prime venue, but there were also works depicting scenes in Goodland, Isles of Capri, Marco Island’s Beach and the Marriott. At each location onlookers could view the progress of each painting – at warp speed! The quality of the art produced in such a short time is amazing.
After a fine dinnercatered by Kretch’s at the Art League, attendees had the opportunity to examine the artworks up for live auction as well as additional pieces by the same artists for a silent auction. The auction raised thousands of dollars to benefit deserving students.
Lombardo, a partner in the venerable Woodward, Pires & Lombardo Law Firm on Marco Island and Naples, was a superb auctioneer. As a sometime artist himself, he was able to mix knowledge and good humor to keep bidders happily engaged. Attendees thoroughly enjoyed the event, and appreciated the great dedication and skill of the artists working under extreme pressure.
