The Gift of Giving

With the holiday season upon us, we find ourselves busy with street parades, boat parades, tree lighting ceremonies, holiday parties, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc., and it seems that as we get all wrapped up in our participation in these events, we sometimes tend to forget the simple true meaning of the whole occasion… giving.

It is my belief that in addition to all of the cheerfully wrapped presents which have your name on them under the tree, and no matter how many gifts you may already be giving to others, you need to give a gift which is focused on and related to just doing something nice for someone else.

This “giving gift” which you are doing does not have to be something that is life changing for the other person. It can be something simple and non-spectacular. This thing that you do does not necessarily have any type of monetary value associated with it. It is just you doing something nice or helpful for someone else, simply out of the kindness of your heart. It could be for a family member or loved one, a friend, a neighbor, a co-worker, or it could be for a total stranger.

So my “giving gift” this year is to require that everyone who reads my column do something nice for someone else, simply out of the kindness of your heart.

You will derive such a good feeling for giving this gift, that you will find yourself doing it on a daily basis, and from that, won’t it be nice to have everyday feel like Christmas!
