Texas Hold ‘Em

This weekend the Kiwanis Foundation of Marco Island held their inaugural Charity Texas Hold ‘em Tournament at Rose Hall Auditorium on Marco Island. The event brought together players of all different skill levels, both men and women, to play for prizes and help raise money for the Kiwanis children’s causes in our area.

The event started with a demonstration session for new players and games began at 6 PM. Runners were available to keep players hydrated while playing and to replenish chip levels when they were low. Every 20 minutes the stakes were raised to speed the game. As players were eliminated, tables were consolidated until the “final table” of eight players was determined.

All players at the final table received a prize ranging from a bottle of Crown Royal liquor and chip bags to a one week stay at the Hilton Grand Vacation Resort in Las Vegas valued up to $2,500 donated by Lucky Lang of Keller Williams Marco Realty. An experienced dealer was recruited to handle the final table, and players had one “last chance” to replenish their chip count, after that the game was on.

Many local businesses supported the event with prizes including the William Morris law firm, Kenco Homewatchers, Hoot’s and the Marco Island Princess.

The final table dwindled down to two last players, Dave Campagna and Lucky Lang II with Lang coming out on top in the final hand.

The Kiwanis Club is a long-standing fixture on Marco Island whose objective is to enhance our community and enrich the lives of our children through service. For more information visit
