Tara O’Neill is displaying a collection

Award-winning artist Tara O’Neill is displaying a collection of original oil paintings at the Marco Island Library throughout the month of September. The exhibition is part of a series sponsored by the Marco Island Center for the Arts (formerly Art League of Marco Island).

Much of O’Neill’s art is inspired by Goodland, the historic fishing village off the southeast tip of Marco. “The mitten-size island of Goodland has been my home for many years; a community that lives not just by the sea, but from it.  My village is afloat with juice-colored flowers and has been worked by generations of calloused hands. Goodland’s hard-scrabbled stories are still played out in tiny cracker cottages dwarfed by exuberant tropical growth. To me, it’s a place of history, mystery, and endless inspiration.”

O’Neill, a lifelong artist, has been an area resident since 1967. Her work is in private and corporate collections around the world. She holds degrees in Fine Arts and English through the University of South Florida, Tampa, and Oxford University/Brookes College, Oxford England. She currently has a studio-gallery at the Artist Colony at the Esplanade on Marco Island.

As busy as her career keeps her, O’Neill still works hard to remain active in  local non-profit arts organizations – and her efforts have not gone unnoticed. The City of Marco Island’s Arts Advisory Council awarded O’Neill the 2010 Flame Award for individual contribution to the arts community.
