Marco Island’s Sunrise Rotary Club donated $5,000 to Marco Meals of Hope at its breakfast meeting on November 5, 2019. Tom Mann presented local attorney Bill Morris with the check fulfilling the Club’s pledge in support of Meals of Hope.
Noontime Rotary, Sunrise Rotary and Kiwanis started Marco Island Meals of Hope and the Clubs have continued financial support for the operation since it began. Every year, each Club donates $5,000 toward the $50,000 Meals of Hope budget.
The funds raised by Marco Island’s Meals of Hope are donations. The sponsoring Clubs each donate $5,000 and the two Rotary Clubs combine to seek a qualifying Rotary district grant for additional monies. Morris coordinated 9 happy hours at which Meals of Hope got admission fees and sold 50/50 tickets. Morris explained, “This year, we were running about $10,000 short and instituted 100 Giving $100 in an effort to make up the shortfall. Generous donors have contributed over $8,000 through 100 Giving $100.
All of the funds raised by Marco Meals of Hope will purchase food and materials for the packaging event. This year’s packaging event will be at Marco Island Charter Middle School on November 16, at 8:30 AM. Anyone wanting to help package meals at the packaging event should register at www.mohmi.org and arrive on time. Morris explained, “most of our volunteers have to park off-site, so they should get there early enough to walk to MICMS, check-in and get to their station before 8:30 AM.”
