Recently, a group of high school students from the Community School of Naples’ Upper School Orchestra gathered at Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute’s (FCS) treatment facility in downtown Naples to perform an exclusive concert for FCS cancer patients, caregivers and staff.
The performance started out as an idea from high school senior Bridget Denzer, who plays the cello with the group. The 13-member ensemble, which included a variety of instruments, performed select short-form pieces of classical music for the audience.
Naples oncologist Dr. Andy Lipman noted the healing power of music. “Today marks one of my proudest moments as an oncologist and as a father of middle school kids who, themselves, will be asked to learn the meaning of the term ‘service to others,’” said Dr. Lipman. “You are seeing that in practice today in these students who are donating their time and talents for the comfort of our patients, nurses and staff.”
