Although the event is well known for its great assortment of arts and craft vendors, along with other offerings of everything from clothing, to gadgets and puppy treats, attendees wait anxiously each year for homemade sweets that center around the succulent strawberry delights.
Last year the workers sold over 130 homemade strawberry pies, along with dish after dish of delicious strawberry shortcake from under their tent. The cakes and pie crusts are all baked by volunteers the day before and assembled fresh during the two days of the festival.Profits from this annual event and other fundraising efforts are disbursed through the church’s missions committee. The missions committee meets monthly to identify groups, primarily local, which serve the hungry, thirsty, lonely, and sick. Wesley supports the neglected groups monetarily and with volunteers.
Some of those that receive support include the following:
St. Matthew’s House
Habitat for Humanity
Liberty Youth Ranch
Guatemala Mission Trip
Florida United Methodist Children’s
Marco Island Charter Middle School
La Piscine United Methodist Mission/
Joy in the Harvest
Marco Island Center for the Arts
