The first ever Splash N Dash Aquathlon in SW Florida was hosted by the Greater Marco Family YMCA and USA Triathlon and was held in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 16. The Greater Marco Family YMCA was only one of 30 locations chosen by the USA Triathlon Association to host the event in 2012. The USA Triathlon Splash N Dash Series was open to all athletes ages 7-15. The focus is on participation rather than competition. The series serves as an introduction to multisport and promoting a healthy lifestyle. The event started at 7 AM with the 11-15 age group swimming 200 yards and then running 2K. The next group in the pool was those ages 7-10 and they swam 100 yards and ran 1K. All youth athletes received a finisher medal and event t-shirt. Participants, parents and volunteers enjoyed a healthy breakfast at the post event party. Jennifer Bristow, Event Director had this to say after the event, “Parents have asked when the children can take part in another exciting event like this one and children’s comments included what a great time it was!”
