Spectacular Bird Photos on Display at Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

Twelve of the best bird photos taken in the United States and Canada will soon be on display at Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

A special touring exhibit of 2018 Audubon Photography Awards opens July 1 in the Gallery Café inside the Blair Audubon Visitor Center. The exhibit ends September 30.

It will feature 12 spectacular photographs of birds covering a wide range of species and geographic locations. Eight of the images are the winners and honorable mentions in the 2018 Audubon Photography Awards competition, and four others were selected from the 2018 gallery of top 100 photos.

The winning photographers and their stunning photographs were selected from more than 8,000 entries submitted by photographers from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and 10 Canadian provinces.

Judging criteria included technical quality, originality and artistic merit. All photographers must follow Audubon’s Guide to Ethical Bird Photography.

Canon is the official sponsor of the 2018 Audubon Photography Awards exhibition, which brings the prize-winning photographs to Audubon centers and chapters around the United States. The exhibit has been touring since September 19, 2018. Corkscrew asked to be last on the tour so the exhibit could remain on display for longer than the three-week shows at previous stops.

The Sanctuary’s Gallery Café offers a perfect setting. The Café serves drinks, lunch and snacks so that visitors can enjoy the artwork while resting within a comfortable air-conditioned seating area that has high ceilings and a deck with a view of a pine forest.

Admission to the Gallery Café and Nature Store is free. Admission to the Sanctuary’s historic boardwalk is $14 for adults, $6 for college students with an ID, $4 for children 6 to 18, and free for children under 6.

Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is located at 375 Sanctuary Road, Naples, FL 34120. It is located about 15 miles east of Interstate 75 off Immokalee Road. The Sanctuary is open every day of the year, from 7 AM to 5:30 PM. The last admission to the boardwalk is at 4:30 PM.
