SPACE: The Final Frontier High School Art Competition and Show

Marco Art Center Partners with Naples Space Festival

Marco Island Center for the Arts invites the public to view the artwork of Collier County high school students that are competing for prize money for themselves and their schools. This themed exhibition will run from April 22 – 26, 2019, Monday – Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM. The exhibition will be on display in the Lauritzen & Rush Galleries. The closing reception will be held on Friday April 26th from 5:45 – 7 PM. The Awards Ceremony will take place at 6 PM.

Marco Island Center for the Arts is a program partner with the Naples Space Festival which will take place from April 23 – 29, 2019. The Festival will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing. In the Art Center’s atrium the artwork of Chris Calle, artist and son of Paul Calle, one of the first eight artists chosen by NASA in 1962 to document the American Space Program’s Project Mercury, will be displayed. Chris Calle will be in attendance at the closing reception.

The Art Center’s county wide high school competition and show invites student artists to interpret SPACE: The Final Frontier as literally or as abstractly as they choose. This is an all media competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent of high school artists in Collier County.

The awards are $1,000 for 1st place; $750 for 2nd place; $500 for 3rd place; two $100 honorable mentions and a $100 People’s Choice Award. The Art Department at the school of the 1st place winner will receive $1,000 to support their art programs and the cultivation of future young artists. If the winner is homeschooled, the Art Department Award will go to the Art Department of the 2nd place winner.

In the La Petite Galerie, “Teen Noir” is being presented by the Marco Island Academy students. Rob Eder’s photography students were asked to create pictures as if they were “stills” from the 1950’s Film Noir movies.
