The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Marco Island recently celebrated the great honor of placing first in fundraising in the state of Florida for the third consecutive year. Relay, as it is nicknamed, is a community based global movement in the fight against cancer. The community of Marco Island has proven itself time and time again to be a leader in saving lives in the quest to find a cure.

The 2020 Relay For Life committee is excited to announce that this year’s event on February 22nd will bring Relay even closer to the superheroes of Marco Island in the place that we love the most—our beautiful beach! Please join us to “Be Your Own Superhero” in the fight against cancer!

Despite its title, the Relay For Life is not an athletic event. It is not a marathon or the 5K run. It is a team event as groups of superheroes join forces to fight back against cancer. All are welcome, no athletic prowess required! Relay For Life is a community celebration of life. We come together to relay a message of hope! Our teams work diligently throughout the year to raise funds. Their efforts will culminate on February 22nd at this super heroic event!

Use your 2020 vision to picture this—a twilight stroll along the beach from the magnificent JW Marriott to the alluring Crystal Shores. Superheroes will abound as we celebrate survivors, caregivers, family and friends. There will be great fun for all ages as our Relay teams offer food, games and entertainment on the sands of Marco Island in support of the cause. Your path will be lined with luminaria bags that you can personally decorate and place in honor of cancer survivors, caregivers and loved ones lost. They will touch our hearts and embrace our souls, shining their light as footprints in the sand.

Admission to this phenomenal celebration is free. Free parking will be available for all who attend. In conjunction with Relay, a complimentary dinner for survivors, caregivers and their families, featuring food donated from our finest local restaurants, will be held at Mackle Park Community Center on February 18th from 5 to 7 PM.

We need all the Superheroes of Marco Island to join us in this movement! We need YOU! Please bring us your ideas, your thoughts and your energy. Join our committee, join a Relay team, or better yet, start a team of your own!
