Recognizes 3 Local Authors

CBN_B18-8The Marco Island Writers (MIW) met for their spring meeting on March 13th at the Marco Island Center for the Arts. Three local authors and members of MIW presented their books and their experiences in getting published.

Robert Messier reported his first book has been published; One Hundred Years of Thrillers and Chillers, a review of 1,600 films of four genres from 1912-2012; science fiction, horror, mystery and fantasy. Copies of his book were available for sale.

Donald Sunshine read from one of his books, noting he has published six books. His latest book, Life’s Moments is about his life’s



experiences from the Hawaiian Islands to the Appalachian Mountains.

B18Dolores Burton, presented from her recent book,The Complete Guide to RTI  (Response to Intervention). In her talk she cited information from a 1983 publication, A Nation at Risk, which inspired her career and subsequent book. Dolores shared how she taught teachers to deal with a variety of learning and cultural problems. She stated that schools are accountable for poor learning and her life’s work has addressed that problem through working with teachers to track issues preventing adequate and thorough learning. To do so, she developed methodology, Response to Intervention. Her discussion was



inspiring as well as interesting and enlightening.

The next meeting will be Wednesday April 10, 2013. Fran Kennedy will discuss the publication of her children’s books and Joanne Tailele will discuss her experience in publishing her book as an e-reader on Kindle and Smashwords. For the second hour of the meeting, writers will have an opportunity to bring a piece of their WIP (Work in Progress) for feedback or discussion in small groups.
