Each year a team of specially trained individuals from the Prescribed Fire Training Center and Rookery Bay resource management team burn hundreds of fire-starved acres. The fires are considered important to the management of these natural areas.
Out from the ashes new growth appears. Some plants go to seed under the stress of fire. Prescribed burns reduce dead or dried leaves and branches which could ignite easily under other circumstances. The fire also returns needed nutrients to the soil. It is a source for rejuvenation. Of course natural habitats are closely monitored and studied both pre-burn and post-burn.
A good look and new growth is everywhere!
