Police Foundation Rib Cook-Off Another Success

As soon as attendees exited their vehicles at the Marco Island Brewery on April 22 their senses were flooded with the wonderful aroma of ribs being cooked on five different cookers. Those five teams would all be taking part in the 6th Annual Marco Police Foundation Rib Cook-Off.

community gets to come out and help to support our efforts to stand behind our officers and at the same time enjoy a great event for the community,” said Dick Adams, president of the Foundation.

foundation’s scholarship and assistance fund. That fund is utilized to help with tuition costs for the children of officers and also assists officers as they seek to further their education. One of the other areas lies in officer assistance in case of illness or injury to an officer

This year the Police Foundation made a slight change to the judging that was done. For the first time in their five years of running this event, five women sat in the judges’ seats. Barb Murphy, Shari Fairchild, Lisa Honig, Dianna Dohm and

Kathy Sullivan sat at the judging table and sampled the various entries.

In the end it was a team effort by Mike Duchaine and Shawn Irving that got the nod from the judges, but it was the officers and families of the Marco Island Police Department that were the big winners of the day.
