A group of about 30 volunteers dutifully and generously donated their time over the last 36 years putting on many of the Christmas events throughout the island. They have continued to plan for several events in 2020 which will allow residents to enjoy this special season during this unprecedented time where safety is foremost.
The community Christmas trees, purchased by the volunteer committee, will be located at both Veterans Community Park and at Founders Park and will be erected during the first week of December for residents to enjoy during the holiday season.
The Annual Christmas Canine Parade held at CJ’s on the Bay on Tuesday, December 1st from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. The Annual Christmas Boat Parade will be held on Saturday, December 12th beginning at 6pm. Viewing venues are as normal and a map of the route will be made available on the Christmas Island Style website at www.christmasislandstyle.com.
The committee has also been working diligently to arrange for a Christmas Drive-Thru event to be held at Veterans Community Park on December 19th. This event is in lieu of the normal parade held each year. The members have begun receiving applications for a static display of floats, which would normally be pulled through the regular parade route, but this year will be displayed in the parking lot of Veterans Community Park. The festive event will involve families in cars winding their way through a special layout which will allow families to view those displays and have their children enjoy seeing Santa and Mrs. Claus on a special stage being constructed for them.
To participate in the event, you should visit the CIS website to download the application and receive information regarding participation in this and other fun festivities during the holiday.
The committee is also delivering 60 new angels to residents and condo associations around the island, as well as hanging the festive holiday banners along Collier Blvd. for the enjoyment of all.
More information will be forthcoming as it is available and they encourage residents to visit the CIS website or Facebook page to stay abreast of these events and other celebrations on the island.
