Parks and Recreation Department Programs

Open Gym Tiny Tumblers will be held every Saturday morning from 9:30am – 10:30am at Mackle Park. Cost is $8/child, walk-ins are welcomed.


Freestyle Martial Arts for Kids Offered by Defense Fitness Club, your child will learn defensive techniques, combined with martial arts fitness and confidence building, training, and skill development. The program is based on the 5 principles of martial arts: Body Relationships, Balance, Extension, Blending & Controlling the Mind all by utilizing the best techniques of martial arts. Freestyle Martial Arts for Kids will begin in September running on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30pm at Mackle Park. Cost is $85 per month. Pre-registration is required.

Garden Club for Kids Help create and maintain our Children’s Garden at Mackle Park. Our studies will be based on larvae, caterpillars, and butterflies, to understand the importance of bees, and to identify bad pests. The program will center around planting of seeds, using fertilizers, and enriching soil. Pre-registration is required. Beginning in September and continuous.

Safety City Join the Mackle Park’s “Safety Crew” for a fun filled month of instructional safety dos and don’ts. Participants will learn about Stranger Danger, 911 emergency calls, fire safety, environmental safety of our area, and water safety. Pre-registration is required. Available for ages 5 – 7  years, Mondays beginning in October. Cost is $30/resident or $36/non-resident.

Parent’s Night Out need a night out on the town but have no place to put your kids? Bring them to Mackle Park for our monthly Parent’s Night Out program for ages 6 – 11 years. We’ll have pizza, games, crafts and much more. Cost is $35/resident and $42/non-resident. Pre-registration is required. Call 642-0575 for more details.

Marco Magic Competitive Cheerleaders Do you enjoy cheering at a competitive level? Our Marco Magic cheerleaders are a squad who travels, competes in local and state competitions and all around has fun. For further details please call for pricing and schedule information.

Jr. Power Tumblers Starting back up in September come out for Open Gym for ages 6 – 13  years old from 10:30 – 12 pm on Saturday mornings at Mackle Park. Jr. Power Tumblers consist of learning your cartwheels, round offs, back bends, and much more. Walk-ins welcomed cost is $8/child.

MICKYS Sailing Learn to sail with Marco island Parks and Recreation. The Marco Island City Kids Youth Sailing Program (MICKYS) returns for this coming fall break. MICKYS students will safely learn to sail in Opti prams and 420s on the waters of Factory Bay. MICKYS is grateful for the continued support of the Marco Island Yacht Club, Marco Island Marina Association, Rose’s Marco River Marina, Sailing  Association of Marco Island, Cedar Bay Marina, and the Island Parks and Recreation Foundation. Lacrosse Camp Learn about the beginning basics of how to play Lacrosse. Camp includes: drills, tactics, rules and regulations, and  all required equipment. Pre-registration is required. Lacrosse will be offered December 27 – 31 from 8am – 12pm at Mackle Park. Cost is $40/child for ages 8 – 14  years.

Jr. Chefs Holiday Bonanza Learn to make a colorful assortment of cookies and loaf breads for the holidays. Join us for a delightful interpretation of thumbprints, pinwheels, wedding cookies, yule logs, sweet breads, and party trays. Pre-registration is required. Jr Chefs will be offered from December 20 – 24 from 8:30 – 12pm at the Racquet Center. Cost is $90/child. Please call Mackle Park for more details.

TEEN PROGRAMS, Ages 13 – 18

Teen Advisory Council let your voices be heard. Teen Advisory Council will discuss teen upcoming programs, field trips, community service ideas, creating a teen t-shirt, and naming of teen advisory council positions. For further inquires call 389-5034. Grades 6th – 12th grade invited.

College Admissions Prep Sunday, October 10, from 3 – 4pm at Mackle Park. College application deadlines are around the corner…what do these schools want? Learn from those who know best, college admissions counselors. These professionals will discuss the Do’s and Don’ts regarding school selection, college applications, recommendation letters, admission essays, and campus visits. Bring a pen and paper for notes along with your questions. Pre-registration is required.

Community Service Opportunities

Marco Island Beach Clean UP Help keep our beaches safe and beautiful all while collecting community service hours. Parents and siblings are welcome to join the teens in this effort. Trash bags, gloves, hand sanitizer, and breakfast will be provided for all volunteers. Pre-registration is required by Friday, September 17. Beach clean up day will be held on Saturday, September 18 from 7 – 9am.

Halloween Spooktacular Help the Parks and Recreation staff make this year’s Halloween Spooktacular one to remember! Volunteers are needed to set-up and breakdown the event as well as run games in between. Please contact Amber Prange or Mindy Matusiak for more details. Pre-registration is required by Friday, October 22. Event day is Saturday, October 23 from 4 – 6pm at Mackle Park.

The Joy of Giving Get into the spirit of the season by volunteering to join the Joy of Giving’s annual gift-giving event. Please take note of the early

pre-registration date for volunteers. For more information, please contact Amber Prange, Pre-registration by October 29th. Event day is Saturday, December 11 from 6 – 10am at Wal-Mart.

Teen Trips

Halloween Horror Nights or Howl-O-Scream The Teen Center will be hosting a trip to either Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando or Busch Gardens’ Howl-O-Scream in Tampa. Please join our email contact list or join the Teen Center on Facebook for more details about this trip as it develops.

Germain Arena – Ice Skating Teens will need to provide money for snacks/drinks. Pre-registration is required by Monday, December 13. Ice Skating will be held on Saturday, December 18 from 12 – 5pm. Cost is $10/person.

Special Events

Winter Wonderland Spend the afternoon getting into the holiday spirit with food, fun, music, and friends! Sip some hot cocoa or hot apple cider, decorate cookies, challenge your friends’ snowboarding skills island-style and trim the Teen Center tree. Winter Wonderland will be held on Friday, December 17 from 3:30 – 5:30pm at Mackle Park. Cost is free.

Teen Social Pizza, music, friends…what more could you ask for? Our Teen Social day will be held on Friday, September 24 from 7 – 9pm at Mackle Park. Cost is $5/person.


Canasta come meld with us on Tuesday afternoons from 1 – 4pm at Racquet Center. This is a free social program where you can enjoy the game of Canasta and make new Island friends.

Island Knitters all knitters are welcome, expert to novice every Wednesday from 1 – 4pm at Racquet Center. Join us and share your stitches and your stories. Free of charge, walk-ins welcomed!

Mah Jongg held every Thursday from 1 – 4pm at Racquet Center. Come join the fun and make new friends. Walk-ins welcomed, free of charge.

Duplicate Bridge If you play Bridge join us every Friday.  Duplicate Bridge is another way to meet new friends on Marco! Reservations are required. Call Peachy at 642-6957 for available spaces.

Line Dancing Boot scoot around at Mackle Park. Iris Mooney will teach you the beginning steps of line dancing and at the end of class you will be able to take home a few to use on your own. Walk-ins welcomed. Classes will begin November 30th. Please call Mackle Park for more information.


Be Fit Over 50 continues on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 7:45 p.m. The fee is $40/month or $5/guest fee.  Participants will enjoy the benefits of increased strength, muscle tone and flexibility. These weight bearing exercise programs will help combat osteoporosis and improve bone density.

Jazz It Up Cardio is back by popular demand. Jazz It Up Cardio will be offered Saturday mornings from 7:45am – 9am. Cost is $5 for walk in or $40 for a 9 session punch card. Instructor Bobbie LeCroy-Lansdown will help you incorporate cardiovascular moves, abdominal work, and free weights for a work out that is heart pumping and sure to please.

Stroller Boot Camp This class is open to all fitness levels, includes work on abs, walking, resistance bands, biceps, triceps, squats, push-ups and much more. Please bring water, a towel, jogging stroller is recommended but not required, and wear closed-toed shoes. Classes will be starting October 4th on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:30 – 9:30am. Cost is $5/class.

Adventure Boot Camp Women of all fitness levels, shapes, sizes and ages are gaining great results with Adventure Boot Camp! You can too! Are you looking for a jump-start to your fitness program? This is Adventure is for you! Whether you are a beginner, an avid fitness enthusiast or just tired of the same routine come try this whole new approach to exercise. Marco Island Adventure Boot Camp is a four week outdoor fitness program that offers fitness instruction, nutritional counseling and motivational training designed to help you reach your fitness goals. Junk in the Trunk Do you have items up in the attic that you haven’t touched in years? Do you wish that you could make some money selling those items? Be a part of our Junk in the Trunk event at Mackle Park. Located in the Mackle Park parking lot, you will have the opportunity to sell your items out of the back of your trunk. Junk in the Trunk will be offered on Saturday, October 2 from 8am – 12pm. Pre-registration is required, parking spaces are limited.

Halloween Spooktacular Come out to Mackle Park on Saturday, October 24th from 4 – 6pm for our annual Halloween Spooktacular event. Music, games, food, pumpkin patch sales, Halloween crafts and so much more will be available, event is open and free to the public. We will have a Halloween costume contest for ages 10 and under beginning at 5:30pm. No registration is required. Call Mackle Park for further details. 642-0575.

Marco Island Farmers Market Located at Veterans’ Community Park, every Wednesday during the months of November through April from 7:30am – 2:30pm, local southwest Florida vendors will be out selling some of their favorite home good items and crafts. Good that will be at the market include fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, salsa, sauces, fresh flowers, seafood, soaps, crafts and much more. Come out and visit some of our local farmers as they showcase some of their favorite delicacies.

Owl Prowl Marco Island is Habitat for approximately 90 Burrowing Owls, a State of Florida “Species of Special Concern”. From the meeting place, Nance Ritchie, Environmental Specialists, will lead a walk to one or two nearby locations to view the burrows and owls. Onsite information will be provided about the biology, history, habitat, behavior, etiquette in maintaining/viewing and the human impacts of the burrowing owls in the urban environment. Classes will be held on October 14 and November 18 from 6 – 7:30pm. Cost is $10/person, all ages are welcomed to attend. Pre-registration is required.

Santa’s Workshop Enter the world of the North Pole with Santa’s Workshop, Marco Island style. We’ll be decorating Christmas cookies, creating Christmas tree ornaments, and making holiday crafts for everyone to enjoy. You will also receive a goodie bag of fun treats and prizes to take home with you. Don’t miss this opportunity to get creative and enjoy the wonders of Santa’s Workshop! Pre-registration is required.

Cookies and Milk with Santa Come and meet Santa and tell him what you want for Christmas. And don’t forget his famous cookies and milk to enjoy with him afterwards. All ages are welcome! Call Mackle Park at 642-0575 for date and time.

Islander Tennis Fundamental Clinics are held Monday & Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. The clinics will cover the basic strokes along with scoring, rules, and proper etiquette of the sport of a lifetime. Participants in clinics will receive free court access from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. and 1 hour of ball machine time during the session week.  The cost is $15/residents; $18/non-residents.

Drill and Tactics: Shot of the Week Clinics are held Wednesday & Thursday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. A specific shot each week will be highlighted to help you fine-tune the stroke and utilize the shot to your advantage.

Drill and Tactics: Doubles Strategy Clinic is held Friday, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., 3.5 Level.  Clinic focus will be on strategy and positioning for all situations encountered in doubles play.

The cost for all Drill and Tactics Clinics is $15/residents; $18/non-residents. Weekly sign-up is required.

Cardio Tennis is held Mondays and Thursdays 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Cardio Tennis combines a great cardio workout along with practicing those winning shots on the court.  Cost is $10 /residents; $12 non-residents.  Weekly sign-up is required

“City Kids” Junior Tennis Program The children’s instructional program features four different levels and runs in six week sessions throughout the winter and spring.  Call the Racquet Center at 239-394-5454 for more information.
