Orchid restoration efforts are the focus of the December 14, 2019 Fakahatchee luncheon.

Dennis Giardina, Everglades Region Biologist with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), will discuss “Restoring Our Fakahatchee Orchids” at the Friends of Fakahatchee “Welcome Back” luncheon Saturday, December 14, 2019 at the Naples Botanical Garden.

Giardina, who is an ex-officio member of the Friends of Fakahatchee board, has visited Cuba six times in recent years to develop a working relationship between the Soroa Botanical Garden and the Atlanta Botanical Garden. He will describe the cooperative project by the two gardens to experimentally restore rat-tail orchids to the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. Giardina promises to reveal “other completely unexpected and interesting results” of his restoration efforts.

The luncheon is open to the public and will begin at noon on December 14 at the Naples Botanical Garden Kapnick Center, located at 4940 Bayshore Drive in Naples. The luncheon will be catered by Friscos.
