Wind Tide, at Town Center Mall, is anything but your average vacation souvenir shop. The store, located three doors down from the Crazy Flamingo Restaurant, offers an amazing array of quality clothing and accessories for both visitors and locals. Yet, what truly sets them apart is the family-friendly atmosphere that owners, Billy and Shannon Diller, provide with great ease.

That’s because Billy and Shannon believe in “treating others how they would like to be treated.” This motto extends beyond the human population as the Dillers even welcome dogs into their store. After all, Wind Tide was named after their two Golden Retrievers: Windy and Tide.

The couple’s idea to open a unique resort apparel shop did not originate on Marco Island. Both Billy and Shannon hail from small resort towns in the northeast and have worked in the retail industry for most of their lives. With each bringing a different piece to the retail puzzle, they chose to open their own shop in a dream location.

Eight years ago, they opened the first Wind Tide store in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. One year later, the second was opened in Beaufort, North Carolina. The success of both stores came through establishing a loyal customer base, yet Billy and Shannon faced the issue of “seasonality” with their stores. Just as Marco Island has a high-season in the winter

months, North Carolina’s season runs throughout the summer. Regular customers at their stores on the outer banks of North Carolina suggested they look at Florida, as that was where many of them spent their winter months.

“We came down to look at the Naples and Sanibel areas to open our third shop,” explains Shannon, but when we came to Marco, we didn’t explore any further. We chose it immediately.”

“We could have opened our winter store anywhere. We even talked about Hawaii. We chose Marco because we are small town people” adds Billy, “it’s who we are, it’s who we know, it’s what we understand. The people here are just like Shannon and me.”

The Dillers obviously enjoy the small-town atmosphere that comes from living in a resort area. They also know that people are looking for quality when purchasing an item. Whether it be in the form of the perfect Marco Island sweatshirt or t-shirt to take home from a beach vacation or the perfect beach cover up or dress for a local, the Dillers are all about giving their clients a product that will last them for many years.

This is evident as the Dillers claim that about 80 percent of their business is repeat customers. “We are known for our colors, quality, graphics and selection of our Marco Island-themed attire,” comments Shannon. “Our main motto is

‘Come feel the difference.’ Once people see and feel the quality of our merchandise they always come back to buy another sweatshirt, whether it be the next day or the next year.”

More than just t-shirts and sweatshirts, Wind Tide also features dresses, pants, skirts, beach cover-ups, unique headbands and other accessories.

One amazing brand that the store features is entitled OLovesM. This company creates unique bags in all colors and sizes. From wallets to small purses, to the perfect beach bag, all OLovesM products are made from extra, unused yoga mat material. All of their products are proudly made in the USA.

Wind Tide also features unique necklaces made with authentic Marco Island sand. Billy and Shannon’s sons, Chase and Finn, collect sand from the local beaches and have it sent to a local artist. The finished product consists of glass medallions filled with colored Marco Island sand. Talk about bringing home your own piece of paradise!

With store values such as “operating from the customer side of the counter” and “treating everyone the same no matter age, gender or mammal,” the Diller family has made Wind Tide the must-stop Marco Island t-shirt shop.
