Noontime Rotary Donates to Meals of Hope

Marco Island’s Noontime Rotary Club donated $4,000 to Meals of Hope at its recent luncheon. Pat Rutledge presented local attorney Bill Morris with the check fulfilling the Club’s pledge in support of Meals of Hope.

Noontime Rotary, Sunrise Rotary and Kiwanis started Marco Island Meals of Hope and the clubs have continued financial support for the operation since it began. Every year each club donates $4,000 towards the $50,000 Meals of Hope budget. Noontime Rotary went above and beyond this year, donating $1,000 previously and still fulfilling its pledge for an additional $4,000.

Pat Rutledge thanked Bill Morris for his efforts in chairing the endeavor. She explained, “Meals of Hope is a great cause, feeding the hungry in Collier County and especially in Marco Island. We want to do everything we can to support it.”

Most of the funds raised by Marco Island’s Meals of Hope are donations. The sponsoring Clubs each donate $4,000 and the two Rotary Clubs combine to seek a qualifying Rotary district grant for additional monies. Morris coordinates 10 Happy Hours at which Meals of Hope gets admission fees and sells 50/50 tickets. Morris explained, “This year, we are running about $7,500.00 short and really need donations. We need help selling our new cumulative 50/50 with tickets at $10.00 for our drawing at the packaging event in November. If there are any angels in the community that want to help, I hope they contact us.”

All of the funds raised by Meals of Hope will purchase food and materials for the packaging event. This year’s packaging event will be at Marco Island Charter Middle School on November 17, 2018. As Morris explained, “If we raise less money, we will have to reduce our assistance to the needy.”

Marco Island’s Noontime Rotary has a long history of supporting Island causes. Representative of that effort includes their support for their scholarship program, Collier Harvest, YMCA ‘s summer camp and computer lab, Marco Island Center for the Arts, Marco Island Historical Society, Shelter for Abused Women and St. Matthew’s House. The Club holds luncheon meetings at Davinci’s Restaurant on Thursdays at 11:30 AM. The Club has been serving Marco Island since 1966.
