On Thursday, June 16th from 3-4 PM, Dr. Dolores Burton will read her new book, “Bully Billy is Back: The Burrowing Owls are Worried,” at the Marco Island Public Library. The book is illustrated by local artist Jo-Ann Sanborn.
Current statistics show nearly one out of every four students (22%) report being bullied during the school year. After seeing the results of bullying in schools during her career as a teacher and school district administrator, Dr. Dolores Burton decided to do something about it. “Bully Billy is Back: The Burrowing Owls are Worried,” is a delightful story of Manny, a small burrowing owl, who has difficulty learning new things and Bully Billy, a great horned owl. While bullying Manny, Bully Billy is injured. Later, Manny sees Bully Billy in danger and flies to get help. Bully Billy is saved and changes his mind about being a bully.
The program includes fun facts about the wonderful burrowing owls on Marco Island and a contest to win an owl (stuffed, of course!). The session is designed for students entering first to third grades in the fall, and parents are also invited. Come and learn about Bully Billy and have some owl fun! Preregistration is required. To register, call Ellen Tanner at 239-252-7561 or visit www.collierlibrary.org/programs. For more information about Dolores Burton’s books, go to: www.doloresburton.com.
