In its efforts to promote cancer education, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has launched a new web tool that makes it easy to find and share cancer statistics (CancerStatisticsCenter.cancer.org).
The ACS Cancer Statistics Center uses data collected from ACS, along with other significant data gathered from a variety of sources. The information has been organized and is now available through the new website. ACS made sure that the information is clear and easy to read. Readers will be able to view breakdowns of cancer rates and survival rates by state and cancer type.
The new website is both mobile phone and tablet friendly. It creates a brand new way for readers to explore, interact and share cancer statistics. Some of the detailed statistics that can be found on the web site include:
• Current year estimated new cancer cases and deaths by sex, state, and cancer type.
• Current cancer incidence, mortality, and survival rates and trends.
• Cancer risk factors and screening rates by state.
Website users can view and download maps, graphs, and charts and even create their own custom maps, graphs and charts. Data can also be exported to Excel. If readers find statistics that are important to them, they have the ability to share it with others.
ACS Strategic Director of Surveillance Rebecca Siegel, a co-creator of the site, says, “We are thrilled to offer this simple-to-use interactive solution for finding important cancer data quickly and easily; a tool we think even those who are most averse to numbers, statistics, and data will find easy to use.”
The ACS Cancer Statistics Center website provides accurate statistical cancer information for the public, promoting and increasing cancer prevention, through the use of shared knowledge.
