The Hideaway Beach Club was the place to be for Stars, Stripes & Styles, a fashion show and luncheon recently presented by the NCH Marco Island Auxiliary. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch created by the Hideaway culinary team, the latest fashions by Beach Daisy and OMG That’s Chic, and a presentation of the Blue Zones Project of Southwest Florida. All proceeds from the event will be used to benefit the NCH Marco Healthcare Center. The NCH Marco Auxiliary raises funds annually to help purchase necessary equipment and offer scholarships to students seeking careers in the healthcare industry.

Deb Logan of the Blue Zones Project gave an informative presentation of this community-wide improvement initiative to help make healthy choices easier for everyone in Southwest Florida. The positive efforts of worksites, schools, restaurants and grocery stores for healthier options in our communities will lead to lowered healthcare costs, improved productivity and a higher quality of life.

Bidding was fierce for a vast selection of silent auction items donated by local businesses and individuals. A money hat raffle put an all-American spin on fundraising as guests took chances on patriotic headgear decorated with U.S. currency. A style display by Georgie’s & The Shoe Resort got the crowd warmed up for the amazing runway show. The models were not only beautiful in their stylish sophistication, but each one has also contributed to the good works of the NCH Healthcare system and other organizations in our community.

Model Amanda Smith has been the NCH Director of Volunteer Services and Retail for the past 11 years. She started the Brain Injury Peer Mentor Program and the Snuggler Program in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She is now in the process of starting a new palliative care program for those afflicted with serious illnesses.

Amanda’s daughter, 16-year-old Savannah Smith, modeled in the show for the third year in a row. A student at The Village School of Naples, she is a NCH VolunTeen with over 400 hours of service. She hopes to pursue a career in pediatric medicine.

Renee Reed was originally a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts. She moved to Marco Island in 2013 and currently works in our Marco Island Urgent Care Center.

Kaitlin Magdalener is originally from Wayne, New Jersey and moved to Marco Island 11 years ago. She is a registered nurse at the Marco Urgent Care Center and is studying for her Master of Nursing degree.

Lisa Quetti is a new volunteer in the Pulmonary Rehab area of the Marco Island Urgent Care facility. Originally from western Massachusetts, she was a doula, or childbirth assistant for many years before retiring to Marco Island. She and her golden retriever, Cooper, volunteer with Vitas Hospice in the Paw Pals program.

Marion Bearden is a third generation Floridian who recently moved from Marco to Naples. She still enjoys crossing the Jolley Bridge to volunteer one day a week at the Marco Island NCH volunteer office. Give her a call to sign up and become a volunteer!

Aly Shultz is a Volunteer Manager for NCH. She lives in Naples, but loves coming to Marco Island, because, in her words, “The sun is always shining on Marco!”

Joan Pidherny is the Volunteer Services and Membership Chairperson for the NCH Marco Healthcare Auxiliary. Joan and her husband, Dennis, are volunteers for just about every organization on Marco Island! Joan and Dennis were recipients of the Spirit of Marco Award in 2012 and were named the Marco Island Civic Association’s Humanitarians of the Year in 2016.
