NCEF Supports Marco YMCA

On Monday, March 18th, the Naples Childrens Education Foundation held an awards ceremony at the Bay Colony Golf Club in Naples to distribute grants raised through the Naples Winter Wine Festival, ranging from $31,000 to more than $2.4 million. Tiffany D. Homuth, YMCA’s Chief Volunteer Officer/Board President accepted a check for $265,000 on behalf of the Greater Marco Family YMCA’s work with children in East Naples.

“The Y is an organization that fosters lasting personal and social change. The Y is about changing lives for the better, that is why our work in East Naples is extremely important” said Tiffany Homuth.

Last year, over 600 East Naples children attended the Marco Greater Family YMCA’s Summer Day Camp program, which includes math and literacy components, taught by Collier County School Teachers. Through this camp, 100 percent of the children maintained and 90 percent of the students improved their academic levels compared to students who were unable to attend some type of academic summer program. Children also receive breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack to supplement their nutritional needs throughout the day.

Students from Parkside Elementary and Manatee Elementary who attended the Greater Marco Family YMCA’s summer day camp and their parents appreciate the efforts of both the Y staff and the Collier County School Teachers.

Again this year, The Greater Marco Family YMCA will use NCEF’s grant to fund its summer day camp outreach programs in East Naples as well as afterschool programming in the area. Homuth thanked the NCEF… “We thank you for your commitment to our community, for bringing people together for the greater good, and for helping all of us improve the lives of our most precious – our youth”.
