Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens is proud to present the Naples Zoo Speaker Series for February. Two extraordinary speakers are traveling to Naples, Fl to the Naples Zoo February 26th and 27th. Each speaker brings their knowledge and experience on two important issues in the world of Conservation, keeping a specific species from going endangered and the challenges and triumphs of the coffee industry as it ties to conservation.

On February 26th, join us for Dr. Arnaud Desbie’s special presentation of the Giants of South America. Giant armadillos tip the scales at 110 pounds and stretch almost five feet long with powerful claws nearly 8” long. As big as they are, they are very rarely seen and do not exist in any North American zoo. Another giant – the giant anteater – is seen in the wrong ways, as road kill. Come and hear what is being done to save these incredible species from extinction. Conservation biologist Dr. Arnaud Desbiez and his groundbreaking research has been featured in BBC and National Geographic reporting. Join us Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 6pm at Conservancy of Southwest Florida. Naples Zoo helps fund his conservation efforts. For additional information or to RSVP Online visit

On February 27th, come meet Dr. Robert Rice from the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center at the Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens in Safari Canyon theater. Do you want to drink the best-tasting coffee that’s good for birds and other wildlife as well as the farmers who grow it? Dr Rice will be sharing research and education activities including what the coffee industry has tagged as the “gold standard” for sustainable coffee certification:  Bird Friendly coffee.  From initial field studies in Mexico, Peru and Guatemala to the international “First Sustainable Coffee Congress,” Rice will explain the challenges and triumphs, and the importance of certification for consumers interested in linking conservation to their daily routine of drinking a cup of coffee. Prior to the lecture, guests can see the many birds in the rookery around Alligator Bay. For additional information or to RSVP Online visit
