It was your typical movie in the park evening with a Disney flick, “Wonder,” as the main feature. However, this Movie in the Park had a twist, a double feature with the Marco Island premiere of “Epic Love,” a 20-minute documentary on the Crossing for a Cure challenge.

“This was a way for us to recognize those sponsors and individuals who supported my past efforts as a participant in the challenge and it explained what the event is all about,” said Josh Ferris. Having completed the challenge twice, Josh has actively sought support from the community. “It was our way to give a little back.”

Piper Suit was present, as was her father Travis who founded Crossing for Cure, a challenge to paddle the 80-plus miles from the Bahamas to the East Coast of Florida. Travis discussed the challenge itself, the people involved and he thanked everyone present for their support and the support of Piper’s Angels. Their goal for the Crossing for a Cure challenge is to educate the public about cystic fibrosis and to raise funds for those suffering with the disease.

Crossing for a Cure challenge was developed out of a father’s love for daughter and his motivation to do whatever he could for Piper, who suffers from cystic fibrosis. The title of the film, professionally produced, is “Epic Love,” and there could not be a more fitting name. At about the 15-minute mark of the movie, watching clips from past challenges and the personal reasons individuals participate in this herculean effort, there wasn’t a dry eye on the field.

Pizza, hot dogs, chips, ice cream, water and coffee were supplied by various businesses in support of the cause. Of course, popcorn is a must at movies, too! Proceeds from the evening will go to support the 2019 Crossing for a Cure. Since it was an unusually cool evening, there were lots of blankets on the lawn to keep warm and snuggle up.

In case you want to see “Epic Love” again, or share it with your friends, you can find it on You Tube:
