Millionaire Choices…

Veterans, it’s your earned entitlement!

Without question, those in service of our country should collect benefits that have been earned. In addition to health care, education benefits may be one of the most significant allowances offered to Vets.

Having served our country and ready to enter the workforce a Marine Vet makes a succinct but thoughtful inquiry.  Read on.

Dear Drs,

I am a veteran with eight years of military service as an enlisted man in the US Marine Corps. I joined right after high school graduation. Now I am looking for a job and would like to build a successful future. My training and work in the corps was in communications. I am self-disciplined and eager to join the civilian workforce, but I’m not sure how to start.

I’d appreciate any suggestions.

Dear Semper Fi,

First of all, thank you for your service. Our guess is that you are about twenty-six years old. Of course, communications is a huge spectrum, and you didn’t specify which type of work you did in the Marine Corps. However, given your military experience, you may qualify for a position beyond an entry-level one, contingent on your prior training and work.

Did you take any courses while in the military? If so, such courses may qualify for transfer credit into a college degree program that connects with your background. Check with your local community college to see if your past training can be enhanced with a degree program. In all likelihood you are entitled to some financial assistance for a college degree, as well.

Your military experience coupled with a degree will greatly increase your chances to secure a job that is most fitting for you. Even if you initially take a job, you should consider working on a college degree on a part-time basis. There is a much higher probability of having a higher income and more job security with more education. So invest in yourself.

You may qualify for special consideration for jobs in both the public sector and the private sector. There are many programs available to assist vets to enter or reenter the civilian workforce.
