The Marco Island Foundation for the Arts (MIFA) has been a non-profit, all volunteer organization on Marco Island since 2003. Since that time, the foundation has sponsored many events on the island. Our mission statement: to promote the visual, literary, and preforming arts in public places on Marco Island.

MIFA currently sponsors the Left Bank Art Fest held at the Esplanade, the Brushes & Paint & Beyond outdoor art show and sale held at the Marco Island Historical Museum, and a Winter Movie Fest series. Themes for the films are usually art, music, theater, and dance inspired.

Is it a lot of work to organize and make these events successful? If you have ever helped on a committee, you know how much work goes into getting an event up and running. So why do it?

The arts can only continue to grow and survive with the help and encouragement for our future artists. So, proceeds from our events goes toward MIFA’s scholarship fund and grant fund. Each spring, eligible local students who are enrolled in higher education of the arts can apply to receive assistance from MIFA. These awards go toward helping defray the cost of their higher education.

Applications and further information can be found on the MIFA website at: marcoislandfoundation.org.

MIFA also requests nominations from the public for Artist of the Year. This special honor recognizes the art or activity of a person or organization who has made an outstanding contribution to the cultural life of our Marco Island community.

You can nominate your favorite artist and submit it in writing to MIFA, P.O. Box 1091, Marco Island, FL 34145 no later than April 15. Submissions must include the name and contact information of the person submitting the nomination. Be sure to include adequate support information about the person or group being nominated including their achievements, previous awards, and contact information. Slides, photographs, CDs, DVDs, recent reviews, etc. are encouraged but not required. We look forward to receiving your nominations.
