Even though the Marco Island Charter Middle School had off on Monday, this doesn’t mean Marco kids weren’t active. Middle School Madness was in session! This event was held at Mackle Park. Mackle supports an active lifestyle for everyone of all ages, but know that getting involved the earlier the better. The park holds amenities that include basketball, volleyball, and even shuffleboard and bocce courts. These all sit next to a gorgeous lake with a jogging path hugging its spotless shoreline. All of the buildings were recently renovated in the last few years, giving them a sleek look that the island deserves.
A dozen children showed up to have some fun while school wasn’t in session. The park counselors set up the activities to ensure each child would have some fun in the sun. It resembled the most fun packed summer camp day possible, lasting from 9 AM to 5 PM. The kids played a version of dodgeball, hit some hoops, tons of other games, and even got to watch the worldwide phenomenon, “Black Panther.” What’s better than watching a Marvel movie without parents vacuuming in front of the TV? Perhaps pizza? Well they had that too.
Recreation Leader, Natasha Gengenbach, has been helping set up this event, as well as many like it, for a few years now. There have been relays ran by kids in the past with truly high stakes, whoever wins gets to throw a pie in their opponents’ team counselor’s face. Natasha, even being a victim of this, stated “Events like Middle School Madness encourage kids and teens to become physically active to develop skills that are needed to stay healthy throughout their lives.” Everyone seemed to have an excellent time, with a few kids not actually wanting to leave. Thankfully the park holds happenings like Middle School Madness all throughout the year.
