Christina Giordano the Master Mixologist and new bar manager at The Dish Restaurant comes from a very varied background. She has lived on Marco Island for the past twenty three years. She started working as a hostess at the now defunct Delaney’s Restaurant which was at that time located at Anglers Cove Condominium. She learned the art of drink mixing from the bartender there. When he became ill, she had little choice but to step behind the bar and, at the young age of eighteen, take over. It was there that she developed the start of her local following here on Marco Island. From there, she worked at Capano’s Restaurant which, coincidentally, was in the same location that The Dish is today. It was Christina who actually designed the bar for Capano’s eighteen years ago, that is the very same bar that she works behind today. The restaurant later became Fortunes and in January, 2010, was sold to the current owners, the L-7 Management Company.

Christina’s loyal customers are happy to find her once again at her new location. Here she is helping to bring local entertainers and elite local ambiance back to the Marco Island restaurant scene. The restaurant boasts the best Happy Hour on Marco as it starts at 12 noon and continues until 7 PM and offers two for one on all beverages from well drinks to house wines and bottled or draft beer. They will also be offering an exclusive wine list and from 5 to 7 PM on Fridays they feature a complimentary pasta station serving shrimp or chicken with Alfredo or Marinara sauce.

Christina was professionally trained in the fields of music and dance. She grew up in a musically talented family and plays seven instruments from strings to woodwinds in addition to her vocal talent. She can be viewed on You Tube singing the National Anthem at Germain Arena prior to a recent Everblades hockey game. She spent ten years performing and directing local stage productions and even helped design and build sets.

After acquiring her first Blue and Gold Macaw and seeing a video about the rescue efforts during Hurricane Katrina, she decided to set her creative talent into motion by picking up photography and became the creative mind behind her production company, Angels of Flight Productions. She states that “Having a musical background and an eye for cinematography makes it a somewhat easier task to follow the music and set footage at the appropriate transition for my films, it makes editing a heck of a lot easier”. Along with her Visual Production Assistant, Michael Porpora, she will be filming a commercial for The Dish.

Having been hailed one of the top mixologists on Marco Island she has created many signature cocktails, all named after parrots. One of these is a martini called a “Blue Macaw” which she created with her own Blue and Gold Macaw, Zazu, in mind. She describes the drink as having Zazu’s personality, “Sweet with a little bit of attitude”. The drink is a mixture of Southern Comfort, lime juice and Blue Curacao. Another of her creations is called a “Screaming Cockatoo” named after her Moluccan Cockatoo “Chloe” and contains a mixture of Bacardi Dragonberry Rum, Creme de Banana, Strawberry Pucker as well as pineapple and cranberry juice. Although she closely guards her recipes, she also volunteered the names of some of her other creations such as “Parrothead Punch” and “Amazon Juice”. She also prepares a secret recipe Sangria which has been passed down through her family. She says it is nicely spiced for winter with a lighter version for the warmer summer months.

The Dish is offering many specials such as their Thursday Night Lobster Fest which features a 1 1/4 pound lobster, corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, soup and salad for $19.95. They also feature a twin cold water lobster tail dinner for $29.95 as well as Surf and Turf. The restaurant atmosphere is a mix of “Metropolitan meets Tropical Caribbean”, a mix of the best of both worlds”, says Christina. “Come visit and be treated like a VIP”.

The Dish is located at 1000 North Collier Boulevard and can be reached at 642-0777.
