Marco Writers gearing up for season

Summer is over and the snowbirds are on their slow decent back to Marco. The slow summer has not slowed the activity of the many talented authors in our community.

The September Marco Island Writers meeting included a lively discussion with two local authors, George Walmsley and Robert Bair about their roads to publication and their new releases. September also brought a book fair in Mt. Dora, Florida, sponsored by the Gulf Coast Writers Association where members of MIW had a chance to sell their books and network with other authors in south Florida.

The October meeting featured author/educator Joyce Wells who teaches online classes for Writer’s Digest. Her theme was writing short stories and poetry using the Triple O method: Objective, Obstacle and Outcome. Mrs. Wells said that regardless if you are writing a short essay, a short story or an in-depth novel, following the three O’s will keep you on track.

October also brought a book fair at the Alliance of the Arts in Ft. Myers where local authors again had a chance to sell books and participated in festivities of the Alliance.
