Marco Men’s Club celebrates 20 years …and keeps growing

The Marco Men’s Club held its 20th Anniversary Gala at Hideaway Beach on January 22. The ball room was filled to capacity. It was a time to celebrate and reflect on the past 20 years. Sam Miloro, the Club’s current President introduced 15 of the past Presidents, and recognized many who were instrumental in making the Club a success over the years.

In 2011, The Marco Men’s Club welcomed over 50 new members to the club, and on February 4 the club officially welcomed its new members and their wives/friends, at the MMC annual New Member breakfast at the Forest Glen Country Club. This function provides new members an opportunity to find out more about what the MMC offers, and to meet many of the current members.

Paul Kurtzman, the “founder” of the MMC, was there to reminisce about how he started the club in 1992 by requesting phone numbers from Newcomer Club members (A women’s club on Marco Island that still exists today), so he could call their husbands to find out if they would be interested in forming a Men’s Club on Marco Island. I am not sure that Paul imagined that the MMC would grow to over 500 members.

The Marco Men’s Club provides men an opportunity to make new friends, share common interests, and participate in a wide range of activities, including golf, major league baseball spring training games, NFL games, men’s only lunches, etc.

And there are plenty of “co-ed” activities that include world travel to exciting destinations in Europe, South America and the Far East. And closer to home, the MMC’s co-ed events includes the Hurricane Ball, St Pat’s Day celebration, Fat Tuesday party, Valentine’s Sweetheart Ball, wine tastings, theater outings, coed lunches, and much more.

The MMC welcomes new members from Marco Island, the Isles of Capri and Goodland. The Club meets at 10:00 PM on the second Thursday of each month at the Mackle Park Community Center. To find out more information, and to download an application, go to www.marcomens
