Marco Island Academy Welcomes New Head Football Coach



coiroJanuary 8, 2016, Marco Island, FL – Marco Island Academy is proud to announce and welcome Damon Coiro as our new Head Football Coach. Coiro brings coaching experience at both the college and high school levels. He was formerly the assistant football coach at Northern Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he was responsible for wide receivers, outside linebackers, and strong safeties. He has been head football coach at Grimsley High School and offensive coordinator at Toms River High School East in New Jersey. Coiro has also had experience coaching at the college level, having served as the assistant football coach and head strength and conditioning coach at Greensboro College, and has also been an assistant strength and conditioning coach at The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Coiro into the Marco Island Academy family,” said Kelly Monnot, Director of Athletics. “His energy is contagious, and he will be



a coach that will be able to inspire his athletes to achieve great feats on and off the field. Through his various experiences he understands what it takes to establish a successful program, and we believe that he is a perfect fit for our future vision for the program.”

Coach Coiro will hold a player and parent meeting on Thursday, January 21 at 6:30 p.m. at the school. He will be relocating to Marco Island at the beginning of March. “Marco Island Academy Football will be a family and community affair. There is a role for all whom want to make a positive impact. High school football teaches belief; it teaches faith, trust and love. These are values that will carry everyone through life, and that is what this program will provide, a life changing experience for all involved,” said Coach Coiro.

Returning players are excited to meet the new coach, get started with their spring training program, and move forward in a new direction this upcoming season.
