Lions Club Pancake Breakfast Hits Record Attendance

The Marco Island Lions Club, a chapter of the highly recognizable nationally branded service organization, has announced that their annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser held recently at the United Church of Marco Island, was a smashing success.

Volunteers this year served 300-plus Marco residents and visitors, while the “chefs” went through many dozens of eggs, stacks of homemade pancakes, a “truckload” of sausages and, of course, coffee, coffee, coffee! In fact, the demand was so great this year, that Club volunteers had to be sent out for more supplies in order to fill all the breakfast orders!

“Whether hosting free vision tests, providing free surgery for those who cannot afford it, testing for diabetes—the leading cause of blindness, or giving aid to the blind, the Marco Lions Club uses its two annual fundraisers to donate 100% of all monies raised to doing good works in our local community,” commented Dave Gardner, President of the Marco Island club.

The next fundraiser, White Cane Day, will be held on Saturday, March 16th, when Marco Lions Club members will be out and about in bright yellow vests at locations throughout the Island, collecting donations so that the Club can continue to provide free eye care, eye exams, provide services for the blind and more, for the rest of 2019 and beyond.

Lions Club International was first formed in 1917 when a Chicago businessman invited business clubs from around the U.S. to form an organization to help solve the social problems created in the aftermath of World War I. Its mission was to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding. In the 100-plus years since, 47,000 Lions Clubs in over 200 countries around the world have been launched and remain active.
