Letter to the Editor: The Humana Agency

The Marco Island VFW Post 6370 asks your help for homeless veterans of Collier County. We have joined the Humana agency in collecting toiletry articles for distribution to these veterans. These products include toiletries such as shaving gear, lotions, personal hygiene items, etc. All homes have items in the bath that have been there for eons, such as hotel supplies not used. These hotel individual items would be prized by our homeless veterans. Also any personal items on the list that have not been opened are wanted for this collection, as you can see on the enclosed brochure.

The Humana Agency is conducting this program through community partner collection sites, one of which is your Marco Island Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6370. We have included in our partnership the listed stores on Marco. They will place a collection box for these toiletries in their stores. The box will be well-marked with the donations requested. The boxes will be emptied on a regular basis by members of the VFW post. These items will be distributed first by an agency in Collier County so that you are assured that our people will be first on the donation list. The balance of items will be forwarded to the agency in Fort Myers for their veterans. Any business on Marco that is not listed that has good customer traffic count may also participate in this fine program by contacting the VFW Commander, Dave Gardner at (239) 289-5862 for a box, and there will be follow-up articles in the news naming your store with the others as a participant.

These veterans have gone through very disturbing events in their lives and need our care and thanks for their service. This is one way of providing this, and we ask your help in doing so.
