Lely Trojans Suffer Defeat in Five-Game Nail Biter

Just one week after defeating the Palmetto Ridge Bears (25-20, 25-15, 22-25, 25-14) in a preseason game, the Lely Trojans Varsity Volleyball team suffered a tough defeat to the Bears in a five-game nail biter on Thursday, August 23 at the Lely High School gym.

The Palmetto Ridge Bears narrowly took the first game 22-25. The teams split the second and third games 25-17, 17-25 respectively. Lely came back with a vengeance in a promising fourth game victory of 25-14. As the fifth game ensued, fans and players watched with nervous anticipation to see which team would come out victorious. The Bears came out strong and took an early lead in the fifth with a 6-1 lead causing Lely Coach Alejandro Acorona to call a time out. The Trojans fought back but were unable to catch up in time. The final score in the fifth was 13-15.

The two teams will face off again on Wednesday, September 19 at 7 PM at the Palmetto Ridge High School gym.
