Kiwanis Club of Marco Island “Toys for Kids” drive

Once again, the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island has begun their annual toy drive for the children of our area. In lieu of donating toys, the club is requesting monetary donations. By doing so, it allows the club members along with the Lely Key Club to shop for appropriate toys for children in the area. K-Mart on Tamiami Trail in Naples has generously offered to open their doors to our “Santa’s helpers” on Sunday, December 18, 2011. In the past the discounts and assistance from K-Mart provided a wonderful selection of quality toys for the students. The gifts will be distributed to Manatee Elementary School, Tommie Barfield Elementary School, Marco Island Charter Middle School and families recommended by school councilors.

Sunday at Stan’s Idle Hour in Goodland was packed with tourists and locals on December 4, 2011. Volunteers from the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island sold 50/50 tickets and two lucky people went home with a lot more money than they came with for the day. L. Flinn was the lucky winner of the first drawing taking home $570 (who generously donated some back to the fund raiser) while the second raffle was won by Ms. Cook in the amount of $340. Stan Gober entertained the crowd with his “Yankee Dollar” song donating all the proceeds to the Toys for Kids drive.

At a recent Kiwanis breakfast meeting on Thursday, Steve Stefanides from Christmas Island Style presented president, John Coff, with a check for $500 towards the toy drive. He stated “The Kiwanis Club of Marco Island continues to do great things for our community and we want to show them our appreciation.” Howard Jordan, a past member of the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island, presented a check for $500 from Upon a Star Foundation.

You, too, can help the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island make the holiday season special for the needy children in the area. Your generosity allows the parents to spend their hard-earned money on food and housing while their little ones are able to enjoy the spirit of Christmas. Donations may be mailed to the Kiwanis Foundation of Marco Island, P.O. Box 2041, Marco Island, FL 34145 or contact John Coff at 389-8929.
