Key West Express

The Key West Express (KWE) graciously invited local Marco Island businesses and community members aboard a round trip boat ride to Key West.

The trip was an opportunity to experience a non-stop sail to the Keys to spend the day or extend the trip overnight in the Keys.

“We offer it as a familiarization trip. As a company, we like to say ‘If you don’t go, you don’t know,’” commented KWE Marco Island representative Marilyn Honahan. “A lot of people that live here have never been on the trip so we like to open it up and let them see what it’s all about, so that they can refer others and tell people about the experience.”

The KWE is a high speed, full transportation service that sails on a three-hour non-stop commute from Marco Island to Key West. The trip adds another 45 minutes from its Fort Myers location. The night before the trip, guests call the provided number for a recorded message regarding departure status. The KWE begins to board an hour before departure time, and all passengers are required to be on the vessel no later than 30 minutes prior to departure time. The moment the crew accounts for all of its checkpoints, the ship sets sail.

The large vessel offers an outdoor sun deck, indoor air-conditioned cabins, large flat screen televisions, full cash galley and bar, all aluminum construction, all turbo diesel engines with jet propulsion, state-of-the-art navigation equipment, and the exceptional ocean views. The crew welcomes all passenger questions and can even help book excursions before you set foot on land.

To drive from our coast to Key West can take anywhere from six hours or more. The ferry cuts the trip in half. Once docked, passengers can walk from the port right into the downtown Key West area. Passengers can take a 10-minute walk to Duval Street and enjoy shopping, museums, tours, water activities, famous bars, and fresh seafood restaurants.

“Getting there and back is half the fun,” Honahan stated. “You can drive for six hours and kill a whole day on the road, or you can take the boat, relax, get some sun, and enjoy yourself.”

Regardless of the season, the rates remain the same year-round, and exclusive pricing is available for groups of 15 or more.

The Key West Express docks at Rose Marina, 951 Bald Eagle Drive, Marco Island. For rates and group discounts visit or 239-394-9700.
