Katie Oakley, Marco Island Academy Teacher, Wins a Membership to Xcel Fitness Spa

On June 16, 2014, at 10 a.m.,  Eddy Hoyo, Owner and Operator of Xcel Fitness Spa on Marco Island and Rebecca Hodge Snyder, President of the Kiwanis Club, will present Katie Oakley with a free one year membership to the Fitness Spa.   Xcel Fitness Spa joined with the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island in choosing to honor a local educator by offering this free membership, valued at approximately $1100.

The winner was chosen by the Kiwanis Scholarship Committee based upon written responses about personal health and fitness goals and future commitments to using the gym membership.

Katie Oakley is the Marine Biology and Forensics teacher at Marco Island Academy.  She recently reached impressive fitness and weight loss goals through intense personal hard work.  She has strong intentions to continue along the path to good health by using the resources now available to her at the Xcel Fitness Spa.  The contest for a year’s membership was collaboration between Kiwanis and the Fitness Spa, and was open to all Marco Island pre-school, Tommie Barfield, Marco Charter Middle School, and Marco Island Academy teachers.

Xcel Fitness Spa, which opened just a few months ago, is located at 1817 San Marco Road, Marco Island, FL 34145, and offers a full range of exercise and weight training opportunities.  Xcel Fitness Spa has chosen to partner in this initiative to assist in Marco Island Kiwanis Clubs’ ongoing efforts to honor and support local educators and students through projects such as Terrific Kids, Key Clubs, Priority One, college scholarships, Toys for Kids, and multiple fund raising / social events.
