Marco Island was abuzz with activity as visitors and residents alike came together to celebratethe Fourth of July on the beach.
Despite a late afternoon thunderstorm, hundreds came out toResidents’ Beach to take part in the Marco Island Civic Association’s annual Sand Jam event. The day officially kicked off at noon with DJ Goose and DJ Ken of Southwest Florida Entertainment providing the tunes. Throughout the day beachgoers could take part in the patriotic festivities such as the “most patriotic swimsuit contest,” or just sit back on the beach and relax.
At the entrance to Residents’ Beach sat Bill Horton and Lee Rubinstein of theAmerican Legion, Marco Island. The duo handed out American flags, pins, and sold hats to visitors. According to Rubinstein all proceeds go towards veterans in need.
“Whatever veteran we determine needshelp, we’re there for them,” Lee Rubinstein said.
