It’s Election Time

It’s election time on Marco Island and the candidates for various offices — national, statewide and local — are hitting the campaign trail. On Marco Island there are a number of candidate forums planned, but mostly for the election of three new city council seats.

The first such forum was hosted by the Southwest Florida Citizens Alliance, held at the Marco Island Historical Society. The event brought out a great crowd to support their candidates and allowed residents to hear from the five candidates vying for the three open seats.

The well-attended, first candidate forum.

Local radio host Bob Harden and former City Councilor Bill Trotter asked the candidates questions during the forum.

The majority of questions were predetermined and a number of them had their content repeated several times.

Young students from the Marco Island Academy would funnel hand written questions between the audience and the moderators.

The following week, the Democratic Women’s Club Meeting hosted a quick meet and greet before their regular meeting, allowing those in attendance to meet the candidates who desired to come out and introduce themselves.

Former Marco Island City Councilor Larry Sacher acted as the moderator for that event, which was held at the Mackle Park Community Center.

The Marco Island Civic Association, the Marco Island Area Association of Realtors and the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce has also scheduled a forum at the Marco Island Historical Society for city council candidates on October 10.

The second such forum, hosted by the same group, will be held on Thursday, October 18 starting at 5 PM.

The Coastal Breeze News will be reporting on all those happenings and will provide residents with an update on these and other important events around the greater Marco Island area.
