Black and white photographers often say that when you remove the color from a photo, magic can happen. That magic is captured with James Pryor’s black and white photographs currently on exhibit at the Marco Island Center for the Arts La Petite Galerie until July 6.
Originally from New Jersey, James began his commercial photography career by making the “perfect” jump off the printed page. Establishing his first advertising agency in 1985, he created one of the most respected studios in the country achieving success in high tech, pharmaceutical, consumer product and fashion industries. He created imagery for both national and international advertising campaigns. He created award-winning brochures and annual reports for some of the largest companies in the United States and abroad. But James always found time to pursue his fine photography and his deep passion for self-expression.
According to James, his images “play both in emotion and technique while portraying private thoughts as public displays.” Being born a Taurus, he always finds himself emotionally divided as to exhibit his private impressions while guarding his intention. His photographs are very honest. Having studied psychology, philosophy and a little theology, his visual environment is one of awakening. His photographs tell the stories of his daydreams, and they appear at the ends of alleys, desolate beaches, above cityscapes and beneath trees and often in dreamlike or surreal fashion.
You will find James Pryor’s photographs bold and dramatic with a timeless quality to them and worth a visit to the Marco Island Center for the Arts’ La Petite Galerie through July 6.
